The Church was consecrated on May 13 1498. The façade shows a late Romanesque layout and reveals the oldest and smallest pre-existing late 13th century building, Also inside you can see traces of the previous church: the fresco which represents S.Cristoforo, protector of butchers, from the school of Masolino. The other frescos have instead been substituted by the altars in pietra serena commissioned by some noble families of San Miniato with scenes featuring images from the Gospel and other religious traditions. The artists to whom the works were commissioned belonged to the major art schools of 1600 and 1700 in Tuscany. Of certain value is the organ, the oldest and most beautiful in this part of Tuscany. The floor is terracotta, the roof is gabled with wooden trusses. Inside there is one nave, which then expands into three, divided by two round arches, pilaster supports: the presbytery is finished by three gothic apsidal chapels. Behind the high altar is the note-worthy wooden choir, finely carved in all its parts and there are also wooden sculptures under the central altar and around the ambo.
