On September 8 1902, on the banks of the Torrente Renipoli, a tributary of the Freddana near the inhabited area of Valpromaro, the parish priest Don Albino Moretti hung images of the Madonna. The notoriety of the sacred shrine quickly superseded the boundaries of the community and became the object of special devotion, particularly during the period of the German occupation, when the town was abandoned and its inhabitants took refuge in the wood of the Madonnina. Every year on the Saturday and Sunday closest to December 8, the festival of the Madonnina del Canale is celebrated, with the procession on Saturday evening and the Eucharistic celebration near the sacred shrine on Sunday afternoon.
