In an urn positioned under the altar of the Eucharistic table in the parish church of San Macario in Piano are the remains of the martyr Santa Fortunola. We don’t know the precise details of his life, except that he was a roman martyr, his body was brought to Lucca by the Duchess Maria Luisa di Borbone in the first half of the 19th century. After the unification of Italy, due to the interest of a few parishioners of San Macario and of Ponte San Pieto, the transferral of the body into the new church of San Jacopo was requested. Since then, we celebrate the festival of the Saint, as it has been affectionately called in the Oltreserchio, on the second Sunday after Easter, with rites and the solemn procession at night.
