The church was situated along the Via Francigena close to the Ferrea gate and was probably constructed in the second half of the 11th century with a Romanesque style with sober and elegant lines. The simple and fascinating building made of square travertine stones and a single nave. INside a small apse with corwning arches and shelves, decorated with motifs of animal heads. The most significant part is the gate onto the Via Francigena which reveals numerous analogies with that of the Abbey of Saint Antimo.
