The Monastery of the Passionist nuns in Lucca is the site of worship of Saint Gemma Galgani, a religious mystic from Lucca who lived between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Her hagiography, which makes her one of the most fervent Italian mystics, developed during the course of her 25 years of life, after which the Monastery of the Passionist nuns and its sanctuary were established in Lucca. The first fortnight in May is dedicated to preparations for the liturgical commemoration of the stigmatised saint, which is celebrated on May 16 in the Archdiocese of Lucca alone.
