Under the main altar of the church of Santi Gervasio e Protasio, in Virgoletta, there rest the mortal remains of the two early Christian martyrs after whom the church is named. These remains were brought to Rome in 1666 at the behest of Mattia Della Porta, a prelate originally from Virgoletta. The celebrations in honour of the two martyrs take place every year on 2 May, but the sacred relics are taken from their urn and laid out to be venerated only every quarter of a century.
