Every year the village of Contignano is illuminated by torches and candles for the atmospheric performance of the the Nativity Scene (Presepe Vivente): an event much loved by all the villagers who dress up in the traditional clothing of shepherds, craftsmen and farmers to represent all of the trades of the era of the Nativity. You will find craftsmen intent on forging iron, cobblers, censors, writers and obviously the Wise Men and the Holy Family. The role of the Baby Jesus, as tradition sets out, is played by the smallest child in the village, together with his parents and the angels, played by slightly older children. There is a magic atmosphere accompanied by holy music and christmas songs. The Nativity Scene in Contignano is performed every year during the Christmas period and Epiphany.
