Worship of the Image of the Madonna del Carmelo, known in Capannori as “The Madonnina”, is one of the most accurately documented devotional phenomena in the province of Lucca. On the site of the current sanctuary there was a rural tabernacle, inside which was the painted image considered responsible for miracles and wonders since the second half of the 17th century. The continued worship attributed to the Madonnina is guaranteed by the community of the Carmelite Fathers who have their own monastery here. The Solemn Feast, which is also a patronal anniversary of the Commune of Capannori, is celebrated on July 16, with particular solemnity every three years.
