The festival of Santa Zita takes place every year, on the day of her liturgical memory, in the Basilica di San Frediano. The celebrations start the Sunday before, with the transfer of her body from the adjacent chapel to the centre of the nave, and finish on the day of the festival with numerous eucharistic services and High Mass at 6pm, presided over by the Archbishop. In the same week the Lucca Council works with groups of farmers to deck the streets and piazzas near the pageant-market with Lucchese floriculture.
