The Madonna del Sole, a sacred fifteenth-century image conserved in the Duomo of Pietrasanta, is an object of special devotion at certain times of the year, especially on 8 September, the festival of the Birth of Mary. This festival, exclusively religious in character, consists primarily of the unveiling of the image (on the evening of 7 September, after First Vespers) and its re-covering (the evening of the 8th, after Second Vespers).
