The Misericordia has been accommodated pilgrims since the 2000 Jubilee. Nearly 200 people stayed the first year. In the next three years, that figure dropped to just 30 people, after which the number of pilgrims constantly increased. In 2016, about 1,200 people slept here, while in 2017 about 800 stayed.
The local council opened a hostel in the town centre, which sleeps some of the pilgrims.
