Day 2 – The Etruscans in Cortona
Breakfast in agriturismo and transfer to Cortona. It is a very well preserved Etruscan town, which belonged to the “dodecapolis” of the 12 main Etruscan cities. The Etruscans left deep traces in this part of Tuscany, wide "Lucumonie" (city states), with very interesting necropolis.
In Cortona we will visit the MAEC museum and we will admire the "tabella cortonese", unique example of Etruscan writing on a tile. Then your English speaking guide will lead you through the historical centre of Cortona. In the afternoon you will continue the tour in Montepulciano, visiting one of the most famous cellar around the widespread net of cellars dug in the rocks. A wine tasting is included. Transfer back to the agriturismo, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3 - The trekking excursion: San Quirico d'Orcia - Bagno Vignoni walk
Breakfast in agriturismo, 5.5 km hike to the lovely village of Bagno Vignoni through classic Tuscan landscapes. Along the way stop for a delicious light lunch and wine tasting in one of the farm of Orcia wine producer. After the trekking, once reached the village of Bagno Vignoni, you can enjoy free time to visit this unique Romanesque village with its ancient bath. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4 - Tour of Val d'Orcia: San Quirico d'Orcia and Castiglione d'Orcia
Breakfast in agriturismo and transfer for a wonderful tour of the Orcia Valley. It is a unique environment where man is still at one with his surroundings, with which many Sienese Medieval and Renaissance artists fell in love.
In this area many works of art are to be found: XIIth century monuments, town walls and very old hamlets like Bagno Vignoni, where hot springs originate from under the soil at a temperature of around 40°C, rich in sulphur and calcium. We end up our itinerary visiting Tentennano stronghold, that shows how fortifications were made at that time and the way in which people defended themselves and resisted in case of sieges. Transfer back to the agriturismo, dinner and overnight stay.
